So Wonderful

Yesterday, February 15th was the birthday of my friend, the clarinetist Herb Hecsh, which we celebrated over a nice brunch in New York where he lives with his companion, singer and writer, Joan Wile.

In view of this auspicious occasion, I thought I’d pull out one of the recordings Herb and I did with bassist Skip Johnson some years ago.  As noted in a previous track posted here (September in the Rain), Herb was not entirely pleased with his playing on this hastily arranged session, but he allowed as how S’Wonderful was among the more acceptable attempts, so S’Wonderful  it is!

S’Wonderful is, of course, by George and Ira GershwinThis is a 30’s era jazzy take on the tune in the manner of Benny Goodman and Teddy Wilson, not something you might want to sing along to, but the lyrics nonetheless are below.

S’wonderful

S’marvelous

That you should care for me.

S’awful nice.

S’paradise

S’what I long to see.

You mike my life seem glamorous

You can’t blame me for feeling amorous.

S’wonderful

S’marvelous

That you should care for me.
