There's a lull in my life
At summer’s end I get a little bored and so it seemed to fit the mood to pull out the sad, languid There’s a Lull in My Life. It’s not one of the better known standards, but I’ve always liked the melodic line and remembered hearing Ella Fitzgerald singing it on an album with Oscar Peterson.
The music and lyrics are by Harry Revel and Max Gordon, the songwriting team that also wrote, among other things Stay as Sweet as You Are and Did You Ever See a Dream Walking? Click above to hear it. The lyrics are below.
Oh, there’s a lull in my life
It’s just a void and empty place
When you are not in my embrace.
Oh, there’s lull in my life
The moment that you go away
There is no night there is no day.
The world stops turning,
The clock stops ticking
Evr’ything stops but the flame in my heart
That keeps burning, burning, oh, oh,
Oh, there’s a lull in my life
No matter how I may pretend
I know that you alone can end
The ache in my heart,
The call in my arms
The lull in my life.
